    Job Description
    GS Engineering, a small, high tech company located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, seeks an IT Manager to join their team in Houghton, Michigan. This position has complete oversight and management responsibility for all IT infrastructures at GS Engineering. This includes daily maintenance, forward planning, budgeting, and supervision of staff. To be successful in this position requires someone who is self-motivated, flexible, and capable of identifying and planning the implementation of longer-term projects while addressing the day-to-day needs of the organization.
     
    GS Engineering relies on the IT team to wear many hats. Each team member must be willing to step out of their comfort zone to tackle tasks that keep the organization moving forward. The IT Manager embodies this collaborative effort within themselves and amongst the entire IT staff.
     
    COMPENSATION/BENEFITS. Starting salary of $65,000 – $90,000 annually based on knowledge and experience in addition to a comprehensive benefit package including health, dental, vision, health savings account, 401K retirement plan, Employee Stock Ownership Program, cell phone allowance, tuition reimbursement, life and disability insurance, paid holidays and vacation days.
     
    RESPONSIBILITIES.
    End-to-end management of IT projects:
    • Identify organizational needs, architect technical solutions which meet those needs, and plan the implementation of the appropriate solutions;
    • Supervise all IT staff; develop and execute training plan.
     
    Oversight of Windows based network (with limited Linux systems) and endpoint devices:
    • Server infrastructure including virtualization, VDI, computing systems for Computer-Aided Engineering;
    • Networking and backup infrastructure, backend storage;
    • Enterprise software including Product Lifecycle Management and CAE tools (Sharepoint, Exchange, Windchill, ANSYS, etc.);
    • Desktops, laptops, mobile devices, thin clients (VDI).
     
    Develop policies, procedures and standardizations relative to the IT infrastructure:
    • Focus on data security in a small business environment;
    • Manage self-assessment and implementation of measures as necessary, incident response, and third-party audits related to US DoD Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification and other industry requirements;
    • Disaster recovery planning.
     
    Develop/manage an annual budget including hardware, software, services, vendor contracts/ relationships.
     
    Assist in responding to user generated support tickets, as necessary.
     
    MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Network and System Administration or related field required, or equivalent combination of experience, education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required to manage an IT department.
    • 5 years’ experience in System Administration or similar field required.
    • Experience in IT infrastructure management preferred.
    • Experience in a small business environment preferred.
    • To conform to U.S. Government regulations, candidates must be United States citizens or lawful permanent residents of the U.S. and be able to obtain a security clearance from the Department of Defense upon hire.
