Turkey Trot
The fourth annual Portage Turkey Trot is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning at UP Health System - Portage in Hancock.
Participants will meet in the hospital’s lobby to register. This free 5K fun run/walk is open to anyone, and is a great way to start off your holiday festivities.
“This event provides us an opportunity to be active with our family and friends before we feast on Thanksgiving dinner,” said Angela Luskin, community health coordinator at UPHS – Portage.
The first 100 people to register online will receive a free Turkey Trot T-shirt. Additional shirts may be purchased at the event for $10 each. The event has steadily grown in the first three years.
“Participants loved the fun, relaxing environment,” Luskin added. “It should be even better this year with a slight course adjustment that means racers will avoid the tough uphill finish.”
The course will start going south on Portage Drive to Ingot Street, connecting with the Maasto Hiihto trail system before looping around Tomasi Road back to Portage Drive, and finishing at the hospital. There will be water and light snacks for participants at the finish.
